Help getting the front hub off
Help getting the front hub off
I need some help here, I have the outer half of the front hub off, but the inner part is still in the knuckle and refuses to budge. A friend of ours has a tool that he started to make and never finished that he'll let me borrow to try and pop it loose.
Are there any other tricks other than putting the bolts back in and beating on them. And of course there's always the torch to help out too.
Thanks,
Mike

You should leave the axle nut on and remove the 4 bolts to properly remove it without seperating the bearing. Do a search there are ways. Yes you will have to get bolts and most likely beat on them. I had read where sone people install bolts a few turns out and start the truck and crank the wheel. The bolts are supposed to hit the housing and push the hub out.
The bearing doesn't matter, thats why I'm changing it. It was a little wobblely and was making enough noise I could start to hear it and I could also feel something when I was turning.
Leave oneof the bolts in by a few threads.Put thesocket on the bolt and get a 3 inch extension, andput it in the socket, i think i also wegded a lug nut in there to make the proper length and start the truck and turn the wheel.
I got it out, I borrowed that tool and finished making it. Still needs some fine tuning, but it popped that thing out of there effortlessly, didn't even have to use a hammer. I'll have to get some pictures and dimensions so I can make another one.
