harmonic vibration

My truck is developing a slight vibration when engine is around 1600 rpm,, even in neutral sitting still, i put truck in neutral and as i bring rpms up it has a bit of vibration at 1600 , are the balancers prone to go? as far as i know this one is original with over 590000 kms.

Robert, we had this discussion about a month of so ago for some other guy who was having a good vibration based on engine RPM and was not related to road speed. Same symptoms as you. It turned out his harmonic balancer was worn out. So yes, they do wear out.

Check if index marks are still in alignment.

Mine does that at idle in neutral. I'll have to check the marks as well.

I tried to take some pictures tonight with phone but could not find marks, what i did see was chucks of rubber missing in groove, that might be a sign of it coming apart.

The marks are hard to see but probably mute at this point as the other condition to look for is bulging or missing rubber

Iirc correctly genos garage sells both the stock one and the fluid damper brand

That is a definite sign of it falling apart

i posted this awhile back but mine wasn't chunking and by looks fine. but the rubber was hardened on spots and mushy on other spots. so the integrity on the rubber on mine. just like a tire with weather checking and dry rot.

You should also make sure that your exhaust system isn't touching the frame any where. My down pipe was touching the frame and the vibration in the cab was horrendous from about 1800 to 2200 RPMs

Installed new balancer yesterday, really smoothened out the engine.. There were chunks of rubber missing, will try and upload a picture of it.
