hard start and no start...
ok this thread is for a friend of mines truck ive been fiddling with in my spare time. heres what i know and what i want to know
I KNOW its a 1999 or 2000 auto 24 valve 4x4. edge comp, hx40, hotrod 44, air dog 150.
the truck is having alot of trouble starting on cold days cold being below 30.
i started looking what i noticed was there was no wire on the front of the grids. theres two studs but no wire.
also i had a test light and touched it to the back ofthe heater where what i beleive are the relay terminals are. i had a pisitive light on one and not on the other.
what should that wire do that goes on the those studs?
and also what is the deal with knowing if the heaters cycling on and off.
now all the truck does is crank

Should be 2 relays, one for each stud or stage. Not sure on the actual timing but both should come on for initial startup when it's very cold, may cycle one or both once started depending on AIT sensor output. So there should be 2 wires somewhere coming off of two relays. Look for 2 8-gauge black wires coming off the drivers side battery, should go down to 2 relays down on the inner fender very close by, then go back up to the grid heaters. Test for power at the two heater connections when the wait to start light first comes on in the cold once all is hooked up.
I would think it should start, even if while running rough without the grid heaters. I just hooked mine up last week to a pair of momentary switches, sick of the nasty look from my neighbor when I send a nice fog over to him when its 16 degrees out with no starting assistance at all.
