Had 1st death wobble today WOW!!!!!!

My company truck is a 2004 3rd gen, hemi,2500, I hit a pot hole today doing 80 km/h and It was crazy the whole truck started shaking viloenty scared the [EDITED] out of me, I went over same hole 3 times again , same speed and it did it 3 more times in a row. It feels like all your tires are comming off at the same time. I know the front end is a little loose but I thougt the track bar was the main cause in 2nd gens and that the 3rd gens were safe from this wobble, it must be the balljoints or something else , I looked at track bar no bolts loose ???? Wow shure wakes ya up at 5 am goin to work.

How many miles on it?

It might also be the shocks are wore out that cause it.

I've seen it on a passing truck... Let say that the front tire is NOT on the ground any longer. It's bounces in a circluar pattern inside the wheel well. Very wild looking to see on a passing truck also makes you hit the brakes in a hurry!

Kind of exciting wasn't it!!!
Remindes me of the first time I drank a bottle of vodka. BUT, I didn't go drink 3 more!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I thing it is a combination of track bar and alignment. Mine did it until I adjsted the front end for 5 degrees of + caster.
I do need a lukes link or a 3rd gen track bar.

you mean to tell me that the 3rd gen trac bar will fit a 2nd gen???

If it does... Did the fix the problem in the 3rd gen edition of the bar?

Known me I will most likely buy the luke's link...

There is a braket made that allows us to use the 3 rd gen trac-bar on a 2 nd gen truck.
I am not decided on which way to go. I feel the bracket and 3rd gen bar is the best way, but I am cheap!!!
I guess it is my back side that I am protecting. So I may go that route.

This was a 3rd gen truck with 30 000km on it. The company bought 27 of these new 2500 hemis and today I find out 3 or 4 other people had it in their trucks also. I thought the track bar was the only cause of death wobble, and they eliminated it in the new 3rd gens with the new track bar set up????

There is so much that can lead to the "Death Wobble".

Tires, rims, shocks, steering components, track bar, control arms, alignment, etc etc.

If someone can get the "death wobble" to happen at the same place all the time maybe they could have someone in a chase car video it for everyone to see. I am curious to see what is actually happening to the front wheels.

My truck was supposed to do this before I bought it. The previous owner said a new steering stabilizer fixed it.

Just about any looseness in a steering component can cause a death wobble, and things like worn shocks and steering dampers, oversize tires, aftermarket wheels, and lift kits will aggravate the condition.

I have been working on these trucks for over 12 years and have only seen it on a couple. However, if you put a lift kit on it, your chances, I believe, are much greater.

I happen to have just taken video of the "Death Wobble"on a 2000 4x4 2500 last week. I can post if someone wants. Its a little big, what is the file size limit here?
