Haulin_in_Dixie, you are one of the exceptions here.
By the way, how did you get the engine out of your truck? Love to see some pictures if you took some. And not to totally change the subject but you said you might have gone with a 12v but found that 24v block. Why would you want a 12v? I would think the extra RPM range of the 24v would be better for towing.

Before adding any bypass filtration or centrifuge system, check with Cummins at 1-800-DIESELS. They have issued a service bulletin some time back when the 12 valve engine was still the only offering. They have specific recommendations about adding a bypass system of any kind. The issue is "does the oil pump have enough volume to spare some oil flow for a bypass?" Without doing the recommended modifications to any bypass system, you could be robbing 2 gallons per minute from that little oil pump. Most Luberfiner type bypass and centrifuge systems were designed to run on 2 GPM.

Add to your cost figure how much you save in oil, and you could even figure in amount of time to change all that oil (if you just wanted to go overboard). I plan on taking my bypass system to my next vehicle, so it's really a one time, long term purchase.

Talk about saving some money, I grew up around some old timer truckers that couldn't afford and/or didn't believe that oil ever went bad. So they just changed filters and added the oil from the old filter. Cant say thats the mentality I have but I will say you didnt see these guys replacing engines. As I said earlier, I think its just piece of mind and to each is own.

This is a clip from an article in LandLine which is a truckers magazine. It may interest some that are interested in bypass filters.
Bypass filters may flow only two to three gallons a minute, but they filter it much more finely (down to as little as one micron for some filters, five for some and 10 for others) depending on size and media type. Amsoil has a small, light bypass filter rated at five microns. A Luberfiner 750 cubic inch filter will flow three to five gallons a minute, filtering to five microns. A Como filter of the same size will flow less oil, about 1.5 to two gallons a minute, while filtering to under two to three microns.
