Got some codes
Got some codes
Hey guys I've been having problems with my VP pump (no suprise there), but along with the dreaded vp code I got these two and they weren't listed in my book any help would be appreciated:
1693 and 1689
1693 and 1689
1693 is only a reminder that there is a dtc stored/active in the other module. Ecm or pcm depending on which module you were in. In other words, nothing to worry about, just a reminder.
1689.....not sure what your other "dreaded vp code" is? , but the 1689 is a loss of communication between the VP and ECM. I see a pump in your future.

P1693 is telling you that codes have been set and is common and non-life threatening. But the P1689 code is a problem. This code is set when there is no communication or invalid data transfer rate detected on the datalink between the ECM and the VP44 fuel pump control module at pins 23 and 13 of the engine harness. This description of the fault comes from the Cummins manual but can be translated.
If there is no voltage being supplied to the VP44 pump, P01689 will be active and may be caused by a poor connection to the pump, or a faulty fuel pump relay in the power distribution center (PDC), or the 20 amp fuse 3 in the PDC.
I would start be checking the fuse then wiggling the fuel pump relay or swap it with another non-critical relay. If no joy, try removing the wiring harness from the ECM and clean followed by some dielectric grease. Next try the same clean and grease with the connector on the back of the VP44. Good luck.

Thanks guys that helps! This actually makes sense. I had a Ravelco system put on my truck Saturday and I wonder if all that messing around with the wires did some disconnecting of some other important wires? At any rate I figured I'd need that pump......
The other code I had was 0216- I thought that was the dreaded VP failure code?

I was afraid y'all was gonna say that. I figured I needed a new one, but the other codes threw me off. I wasn't sure what those were so I didn't know if there was going to be other things I needed to replace while I was doing the VP
