got new tires=bad ride??

i got new tires for my truck, P265/85/16 ( got em for free, brand new ), they are rated at 65 psi, when i first drove the truck, you felt every little bump in the road and the ride was terrible, i lowered them to 50 psi and now the truck bounces all over the road and the steering is sloppy....my original 2-ply tires rode beautiful...what can i do to help the ride? what air pressures suggested and will changing the shocks help? or do these tires just stink, average all terrain treads, no namers i think.....

Re:got new tires=bad ride??

barra..Since we don't know what kind of tire you went from too? Its probably a combination of a harder tire (ply) and shocks. I run 305/75/16- 10ply tires with 45psi in front 40psi in rear. I recently installed Rancho 9000 shocks, setting #5 and this really helped the bounce. Side to side movement is combination worn steering linkage or track bar. I don't think the tires are junk? Just made the other parts of the truck more noticeable because of the harder compound and ply of the new tire vs the old.
Steve

the old tires were the original 2 ply, 35 psi tires...not sure of the exact size, new ones are about an inch higher...

if ur tire is a "P" rates tire it is designed for a pasenger car. the side wall will not be as stiff as an LT or tire load range "D" also if it a P rated tire u are probably over inflated at 65 PSI. try varying the pressures till u find something that works

Heath...I do have a 2" leveling kit on the front, however, 305/75/16's will fit on stock truck and rims. 305's are same profile height as 285's except wider.
Steve

The stock Michelins that came on my truck (265/75/16) they were 10 ply tires. Rode like a tank even with 40psi in them. Got a set of 8 ply, 305/70/16 tires. Thing rode like a Caddy (so to speak ). Then I got a new set of shocks. Thing rides even more like a Caddy. You can barely feel the bumps.
they are "lt" rated and range load "D"...i just changed the pressures but after all these responses i feel better about the tires ride quality....i'm thinking of doing the new shocks mentioned earlier, probably need 'em anyway...Anybody know how much they cost around?

On a D range tire (which is too light for the front of the truck) you better check the max pressure on the sidewall. You may be exceeding the max pressure.

Check te shocks, and the tires might be out of round. Could be a combination of the two.
