Getting CPS out of block?

So trying to get my Crankshaft Position Sensor out of the engine block to replace it, it wouldn't budge and I broke the top of it off(cheap plastic crap). Now what's left of it is flush with the side of the block so I don't have any way to grab it from the outside. Is that hole it's pushed into open to the crankcase? Can I drill it out or do I risk sending debris into the crankcase? I also thought maybe I could thread a small screw into the guts of the sensor and use that to pry on it. Anybody have any other handy mechanic tricks to get that thing out of there? I'm suspicious that it failed somewhat catastrophically inside there(melted or cracked apart or something) and is wedged in there good. What makes me think that is there was oil in the top where the sensor connector attaches and on the sensor connector itself. This also may mean I've answered my own question and that hole is in fact open to the crankcase in which case I need to use extreme caution.

not trying to be a smarty pants but you did remove the screw/bolt that holds the cps in correct? When I replaced mine I twisted it left to right and it came out. There is a small o-ring gasket which may have dried up, try spraying some lube on it to loosen things up. Hope this helps.

The CKP has an O-ring which helps seal it and make it difficult to remove. The CKP turns in the o-ring. Keep twisting. It eventually comes out. Try prying with a small screwdriver. Get the screwdriver to catch & you can lever the CKP out (perhaps). You'll not break one off again.
