Is the price of an oil change really worth losing an engine over? I make 5000 the max on mine. Yea, maybe the oil analysis will say it does not need it but I have peace of mind.

I'm sitting at 5000 also from now on.

My last change cost me over $60!

If I can go 5K and leave it I'm good with that.

4,000 miles here. Rotella 15w-40 and filter every time. Start it and drive it just like a gasser. Been driving the cummins in a dodge since fall of 1988 and as far as I know everyone is still running.

OK, you asked. I ran the same oil for well over 60,000 miles and four years using the dual remote system on my old 89. TBN and other criteria was still coming back well in the acceptable range but figured I had got my moneys worth at 60k. Actually it was not exactly the same oil. I changed the main oil filter every 5000 which took a quart and change both filters every 10000 which took near three quarts.

Same here. Been through an 89 (bought new, traded on the 99), a 92 (Boatniks truck now), a 95, and my 99 (bought new).

No need to hide behind anything..... You're right to know that oil doesn't go bad. Heck, I even said it and I'm not chard from burning debris. Its sad to see how much knowledge people think they have is based mostly from advertising marketing.
If it wasn't for the combustion process, engine oil could last for a long time. I have friends and family who ran owner operator long/short haul semi for many years and never changed the oil. It was just to expensive given the high volume of oil capacity they held. So changing the oil filter and replacing whatever amount was removed with the filter was the norm. And those trucks lasted for many hundreds of thousands of miles too. I even remember that a few got their engine oil in plain ol' 30 weight oil in 50 gallon drums. Emission regulations are the real the double edge sword here.

You are right about the combustion by products. Anyone here ever work on large natural gas engines? They stay immaculate inside, oil and all. I will still change mine at 5000.
