Depending on your trailer weight you may or may not help your mileage towing. My truck was born with 4.10's and I swapped them out for the 3.55. Drivability empty is alot better and our heaviest trailer only comes in at around 8500 so keeping the stock tire size it does the job. From what I've experienced a 3.7 gear would have been nice.

Way to go if you can afford it(What I would like to have done). Or just put the money in the engine and gear to 3.54 (what I am doing).

Check out a Gear Vendor overdrive unit for sure . Make your 5 spd a 10 , you would have a overdrive in all 5 forward and 2 reverse. It is a plantary gear set installed after the trans . nice and quiet with push button operation My friend just did one him self for like $1600.00 usd . If you look into it that is not much more than rebilding both front and rear diffs (the gear ratios must match) Im told they handle up to 1000 H.P. and 1200 ftlbs torque.
they do make gear vendor over drives for auto transmissions and 6 speeds aswell.
good day
