fuel pump and gasoline?
wife had a blonde moment and put half a tank of gas in her diesel truck.
been sitting at the dealership for about a week. figured i might as well fix it myself, since the proffessionals seem to be too busy fixing computers.
its a 99 2500, 5.9l all stock
from what i understand, diesel engines are supposed to be tougher then gas, i wouldnt have expected there to be any problems. it would have just washed the engine and called her a day. after wandering around here i am honestly worried that i might have to go lookin for another engine to avoid the cost of the repair. i hope it wouldnt be that bad. i dont want to get cleaned out by the dealer either.
what would have happened to the fuel system if it had been run for bout 15mins then quit? and wouldnt restart.
more importantly, i know the new pumps arent as resiliant as the older ones. would it have fried the pump, or the injectors?

Your engine will run on a blend of Diesel fuel and gasoline, just not very well - the more gasoline the ruffer it will run - and it will likely not start on the blend - just that few minutes will not have damaged anything if your VP44 was in good condition - try this:
Drain the tank
- install fresh Diesel fuel mixed with 2-stroke motor oil at 1oz\gal in the tank (and, I would suggest running this mix forever for internal lubrication of the mech radial piston VP44, gasoline or not)
- remove the banjo bolt at the VP44 inlet
- using the lift pump, flush the lines to the filter and VP44
- drain the filter housing, replace the filter
- prime the filter with the fresh fuel using the lift pump
- flush the line from the filter to the VP44
- tighten the banjo bolt at the VP44
- crank engine and bleed the injectors till you see and smell Diesel fuel
- crank it up and yer good to go................
Also, I would suggest some remedial marriage counseling under guidance with a counselor who is also a Diesel owner!!!!!

What gmctd said. Also, mix in some Seafoam with the fresh diesel. I have seen this happen before
, and normally it won't hurt anything but your pride. As long as you get all the gasoline out the truck should be just fine.

My old neighbor ran his 2000 for half a day like this. Don't ask me how. They use it for their moving company and pull a large trailer with it. Its still going strong at 170K the last time we talked. Its louder than my 01.5. He said all they've repaired is the auto trans. BTW this happened about six months after they bought it brand new. Kurt
ahhh
u guys are addin some interesting chemicals to the diesel. im not sure what the seafoam is for (water control?). i have a friend that uses methenol for water control. the 2stroke oil makes sense. its a lube. the diesel is basicly a 2 stroke with all the fancy wires. and its not like they r leaving any of the important chemicals in the fuel anymore.
i dont think a marriage counselor is going to help, what would be great, is if husky colour coded their handles. the last thing i want to do is spend hard earned money to talk to sombody that went to school (7 years?) to learn how to do that. i remember my parents teachin me to talk and i manage to comunicate everyday. bloody amazing, eh? besides where am i gonna find a girl to look after me like she does?
as it turns out the dealership got off their rump and fixed it. which is nice because weve dropped into a cold spell (-20, bout -10 for all u folks on the imperial system). it makes it just that much harder. hello frostbite.
thanks for the detailed instructions. im not sure where u got them from but i bet theyd look great in a resource that compiled stuff like that -nudge-.

Well, good fix then - the instructions are merely common sense 'flush the system' procedure - and the bit about the Diesel-owner marriage counselor was just in lieu of takin' her out to the back pasture and shootin' her, eh - a Diesel is a terrible thing to waste - but, if she's a keeper, then so be it..............
