fuel line size and draw straw

I am on a mission that is probably impossible to succeed in, but its worth a try. Its making the VP last longer the truck. Even though I think if you look at the pump the wrong way it'll die.
So I am thinking about upgrading my fuel system while i am also rebuilding my motor. So i was thinking 1/2'' feeding line and 3/8'' return line. Or should i go 1/2'' both directions? Another thing, did anyone just try making their own draw straw?

Unless you are going to really pump up the truck, stock at 3/8 & 5/16" is plenty good.

You could make one, but I have a full machine shop at my disposal and I can't make them as cheap as I can buy them............unless you want to make them in lots of 50, just buy it.

upgrade the supply lines to 3/8 or 1/2 pushlock fittings and hose. leave the return as is.

I was jsut wondering about the draw straw. i wanted to buy one just cuase i didnt want to mess with trying to rig something up and it not working. Ill upgrade the supply side to 1/2'' just so i dont have to do it later down the road.

I made my own 1/2" pick up tube. Its not that hard to do, or costly. I had to do it as the factory lines were rotten @ top of the sender. You have to remove the pick up assembly from the tank and you will notice it is telescopic (this is why most drawstraws suck air @ 1/4 tank) CAREFULLY remove the flexible suction line and cap off the line @ the top of the sender so it cant leak. then get a 1/2" hose adapter to mate to the base of the pick up just behind the screen where the stock one was and run the hose to the top of the sender (leave a slight coil so it can flex as the sender telescopes) then drill a hole and use a grommet to seal a 90* 1/2" elbow through the top of the sender. re-install the sender in the same orientation as it was removed and hook the 1/2" line to the pump and VP. Bear in mind this is all over-kill if under 500hp. And the VP has a pressure bypass valve that limits fuel flow to the return line and excess pressure (over 20psi) can harm the VP. 12-16psi @ idle and no less than 7psi @ WOT is ideal.

Vulcan sells their big line kit, which also moves the lift pump down to the fuel tank area. You then have your choice of pumps. It comes with wire harness and all fittings. Many on the site like this kit. It also makes changing the lift pump easier on the next go.

Go with Vulcan, drop the tank and use the Draw Straw-V and the Big Line Kit. It took a little work but was worth it. You will laugh out loud when you see how dinky the factory lines and fittings are. I get 19PSI at idle and 15-16PSI WOT.
