fuel filter problem ?

Recently changed my fuel filter and did a pressure check at the shraeder valve at the injection pump, it showed 5 lb. at idle, not good. I thought the pump was on it's way out. I did the test because my warranty is running out and thought this might be my last chance at a free pump. I had one replaced at 79000 km. and now have 151000 km. Took it to the dealer to have it checked out, thinking i am going to get a new pump, they verified 5lb. at the injection pump but that there was 15lb. before the filter, they changed the filter and 15lb at the injection pump. So my question is getting bad fuel filters right out of the box common? I buy all my filters at cummins because of the warranty issue, part #fs19579, is there a better filter for this engine? I am going to take it back to cummins and see what they say. Dealer charged me 65.75 for the filter I buy them from cummins for 13.74 i think they are probably the same filter, except the dealer one will let fuel thru it Oh ya they charged me 102.00 for the labour, boy am i saving a lot of money doing this job at home, well maby not this time gota learn to check pressure before the filter also.

Never heard of getting bad fuel filter.....the part number u mentioned is the Stratopore...and is supposed to be a premium filter, and this is what I use as well.

$102 for labour for a 5 minute fuel filter change??? that is unbelievable especially since they are already screwing you for the filter...wow...I am in the wrong business.

roadrat,

Do you still have the filter that caused you the problem you stated in your message? If you still have it, let me know and I can give you a name at Fleetguard that will assist you in this endeavor. It will be in interest to all members to know how this problem was handled.

Thanks.
