fuel filter change ?
fuel filter change ?
Hi all,
I've had a "93 ford 7.3L and i had no problems changing that fuel filter as there was plenty of room to work.
My question is...how hard do you find it to change them out on your dodge ?
The ford had to twist off engine..then twist off bottom of filter...reattach/fill and spin on.
hoping same is true for new truck
thanks,
joe

Well, I'm clearly not as accomplished as Mr. Fiftygrit. However, on my 99 it takes me about 20 minutes. I change the fuel filter at every other oil change. Only buggered it up once so far where I got some air in the line and had to break the injector lines loose one at a time until she fired. Other than that, there is some excellent information at Geno's website about fuel filter changes on the 2 gens.
Cheers!

Yea, our 97-99's are a wee bit harder than an 06.
Actually, probably 10 min. would do it, but you have to be kind of a contortionist, and you will spill fuel. The worst part of the 97-99 filter change I have found is making sure the tab and slot are aligned so you don't break the lid.

About 10 minutes tops on my 99.
I know I'm going to spill some getting the housing out around the brake lines etc. I always top off the filter and housing with some diesel conditioner before putting it on and when I put in the FASS lift pump I wired in an override switch. Once the filter housing is on and snug I filp the switch and wait a couple of minutes, once the gurgling sound stops I shut off the pump and I know the system is flushed with cleaner and purged of air.
