Thumbs up

Welcome to the site,
What year truck?
After removing the old filter and draining the filter housing, I fill mine 3/4 full with clean diesel fuel...a little runs over while tightening the top down so it's real full then I bump the starter (to get a 25 second lift pump run), without starting the engine, 4 times to be sure any air is pushed through the VP.

If you bump the starter several times to cycle the LP, it should fill the cannister and actually begin to return fuel to the tank. Starting the engine shouldn't be a problem.
