Welcome to the site,
What year truck?
After removing the old filter and draining the filter housing, I fill mine 3/4 full with clean diesel fuel...a little runs over while tightening the top down so it's real full then I bump the starter (to get a 25 second lift pump run), without starting the engine, 4 times to be sure any air is pushed through the VP.
