Fuel Filter

I have replaced my fuel filter 6 times. 2 of the 6 times the truck would not start. I alternated between cranking on the starter and "bumping" the starter. The truck eventially started.

What procedure should be followed so that the truck starts every time after a fuel filter install? Should I have a supply of diesel fuel on hand to top off the filter canister? Maybe it didnt start because I had allowed air in the fuel line.

It had only happened a couple of times after changing the fuel filter. I have no other problems with the truck that I know of. You think I might have the beginnings of a bad lift pump?

Tim,

Make sure you fill your fuel canister with fresh diesel before you put the cover back on. If you do this you wont have any starting issues.

tim look at this lp test its easy to do to see if you have a pump that is working at all. pull the line to the injector pump off (either end of #5) then put a container under it incase the pump works it should pump out 1.43 liters when you bump the starter if it doesn't you are in need of a pump. hope this helps
