Fuel Filter 0 ring,??? cause of leak????? help

A few months back I changed my fuel filter...1998 24 valve.
Seemed like the o rings that came with the new filter were not quite as thick as the one I removed. I believe all my fuel filters have been from autozone counter and not dodge parts counter.

I now have a single drip when I park. And, also, if it's a hot day and I park pointing uphill, (has happenned twice), I have to reprime my injector pump for it to start.

So, my question is,...Can I buy new O-rings for that somewhere without buying a new filter.

Or, another question,..maybe I should be asking...Is it just going to be the o-ring that seals the filter in the canister (big ring) rather than anything else.?????

If I just put a new filter on...I'm a little afraid that it will still be the smaller and less beefy o-ring...which in the end would get me nowhere.
Since it was a not a major problem,..my last orings were long gone and in the trash.

Ok,
please chime in and give me any info. you have on this. I'm sure I am not the only one with this problem...Of course,...since the drip would never have been noticed until I started poking around from having to reprime my pump the first time...I never would have noticed this.
thankx again.

when I had a oil place change the filter at the same time as oil I noticed about a month or 2 later that I had a leak too. but I put on filters from napa and I don't have that problem.

So,
I am nearly as close to NAPA as I am to Autozone.
Do they APPEAR to have the same thickness o rings as OEM?

You sure it isn't comming out of the two wires in the top of the canister?

Maybe I should check that. It's been a few months since I looked.

Well, I let it run for 5 minutes and didn't get even a drip. But it doesn't appear to be the wires in the top. It's not really wet or oily around there. In fact,...It's barely looking like a drop might come off the bottom of the filter housing sooner or later. But I don't have the patience. The main reason I care about it is because I work on folks houses that are fairly wealthy and that single drop of oil that shows up on a driveway is a no-no. And I'd like to stop it.

okay not sure if a 98 has the same syle of drain valve as my 02. I had a leak like this long ago thought it was the o-ring but what i found was I had drained the fuel filter housing and did not close the valve all the way. this gave me a a few drips every few day.

check the drain tube, stick some q-tips in it to clean it. also good to clean entire fuel filter housing etc. I have never had an issue with o-rings. I have had an issue with leaks cause i forgot the o-ring. lol.....

Well, I routinely put carboard under it when I am working. And it will usually catch the drip. But it can be windy here and the carboard has blown away a number of times..

I always dip the new ring in the fuel filter housing so it goes in wet, rather than risk tearing a new ring up when I snug it up...

If you clean the area real good and dust it with baby powder you will find your leak....

that is a good point. the drain valve (although slightly different) could either be open just a little or just shot altogether.
