Fuel Additives

I was wondering what a good fuel additive is ? Right now I am running Power Service it seems to do an O.K. job but it didn't really help with the mileage much. I'm looking around for something that will help more with the mileage and lube the VP44 too. I've heard alot of people mention Stanadyne. At my work we use Shaeffers Diesel Treat 2000 in the Semi's and it seems to be a very good additive. Thanks for any replies.

Very broad subject with a lot of opinions. Try doing a search and you will get more info than you can digest.

I asked everyone on this topic too. I tried the Diesel Clean at Walmart and I didnt notice any differences (i ran two tank fulls). BUT I went to Autozone and picked up some injector cleaner/cetane boost made by Cheveron and by the second tank I noticed more power and easier running faster starting etc. Just try a few maybe you will get lucky

If available locally, Bio-diesel is probably the least expensive additive you can buy. Don't know if it would help MPG, but it's cleaning power and lubricity are great. As an additive, a gallon added every other tankful would do the trick IMO.

Or simply use a premium diesel fuel. BP/Amoco Premier diesel fuel should be available in your area, as the refinery that makes it is in Indiana. It has all the additive components plus a cetane rating of minimum 50, right at the pump.

Additives are a good idea, but don't fall into a false sense of security about your VP pump.

PLenty of Vp44s have died even when fed a steady diet of quality additives and good fuel. Electronic failures kill them just as easily as mechanical failures, sometimes more so.
