A friend of mine @ work has a 99 Cummins that won't start. He said when he turns the key on he no longers hears the hum of the fuel pump. I told him how to check the codes ( if the 99 does it) and he is going to let me know what it reads. He did say the CE light came on. Lift pump? Inj pump? Any help please.

 

99 doesn't do the key on/off thing, he'll need to get it scanned.
Since the CEL is on, he'll definately have a code in there.

Thanks phox, I did'nt know if it did or not. He is probably still out there turning the key on/off. Looks like it goes to the shop!!!!!!

 

What happened? Did it just not start? He can bump the starter to see if the lift pump will run. Tell him to just turn the key real quick to engage the starter, but don't let it crank over. The lift pump should run for 30 seconds.

 

I'm not real sure what happened. He told me @ work last night that it would'nt start and he could not hear the lift pump run at all. I'll be leaving for work shortly and try to find out more info tonight. Thanks
