Well, the APPS grounding method did not work. Next will be the noise suppressor/condenser on the back of the alternator.

You can replace the brushes in the alternator one time before replacing the whole alternator unit. The brushes are pretty cheap. I looked into this when I dealt with the frustrating apps problem and ordered the brushes. I never did replace them, the alternator turned out to have nothing to do with the apps problem in my situation (I still did wrap that wire with tin foil, just in case).

I'll post the info for the replacement brushes when I find it, it might be worth trying.

 

I had the same problem, being so frustrated, I broke down and bought a reman Alternator from Autozone and it was fixed. The truck now runs great. Additionally, I tried all the above mentioned and none worked.

I tried everything ...CLeaned all 6 grounds..Reset APPS, cleaned battery terminals, added noise supressor etc....It was a weak battery on the passenger side..Bought 2 new batteries and havent seen the problem since....( year ago)

 

The eventual fix for my problem was a reflash at the dealer. Works like a charm.

I just install the box from DTT it works perfect

 

I fixed mine by running a dedicated ground from the passenger bat neg terminal to the computer on the firewall and coated both ends with conductive copper antisieze. Soved the problem for basically free since I had everything sitting around. I was going to replace the Alt if that fix didn't work. Glad it did, saved me about $200.

 

Didn't work for me, but it did lighten my wallet a bunch.

 

DTT has a procedure to install a new signal wire directly from the APPS to the PCM. I have done this on a few trucks and it has worked well. It may be worth a try for you.

 

I did all of these and none of them worked... also cleaned all of the ground terminals everywhere on the truck. When I disconnected the batteries the problem would go away for maybe a day or 2 then come back. What finally fixed it for me was cleaning the battery terminals and connection cables and getting so that I could actually tighten them good on the batteries as the terminal connectors and bolts had been eaten away pretty bad preventing them from being tightened properly. Once I did that the problem went away.

However it does sound like a bad alternator in your case...
