Fluids change Which ones???

I have 36000 on my 01 with five speed. I have read a few threads off here and am confused what to do. The factory just redid my whole front end, confused on that long story, but it should have new fluid in it. However I want to change my rear end and trans. so which fluids should I use and how much, and if there are any tricks for the process please fill me in. I run her kinda hard most of the time. I also pull quit a bit. The other day I tiped the scales at 37500 don't do that very often but gross 20-25 frequently.
thanks
Heath

Re:Fluids change Which ones???

The fluid for the NV4500 is Castrol Syntorq LT. There should be a tag on the transmission stating that, along with DC and GM P/N's. I believe it's a 75W-85 gear lube. It's also considered a synthetic, a group III hydrocracked petroleum base.
Capacity is 4 quarts. Limited sources from which to purchase, and expensive. I run series 2000 75W-90 synthetic gear lube in mine, and I've been assured it has the correct additives for yellow metals.

Check your owner's manual to find the exact capacity for your rear axle. My Dana 80 is listed as 5.05 quarts. I think DC recomends synthetic if you do a lot of towing, and some put 140 wt. lube in over 90 wt. The cover must be removed to drain this, and I used RTV silicone for the new gasket on mine. Good luck!

Re:Fluids change Which ones???

ARAcummins-

I used Redline 80w-140 in my Dana 80 and used "The Right Stuff" sealent from NAPA. Remove pumpkin, clean off old gasket, clean out diff (particles and old lube) apply bead of sealent covering bolt holes, reseat and tighten- but don't tighten too much just "snug". The Right Stuff works great no waiting around for it to set up. Truck can be refilled with lube and back in service immediately. 5 quarts of lube- had to drive truck around at 4 quarts to stir it up then put in last quart. Redline has the additives for LSD in it already. Hope this helps
