Fluid from slit in Bellhousing

Everytime I get in my truck when its parked on pavement, I lean down and peep to see if my truck is leaking any fluids. Well, I noticed the there was a small drop clinging to the slit in my bellhousing. THere appeared to be a puddle on the ground too.

Whats the deal?

Check your oil pan gasket. I just had mine done yesterday, under the warranty. There is a TSB out about " Engine oil pan gasket sealing".TSB# 09-006-01. Tommorow, mine is going in for the oil blow-by bottle, TSB# 09-002-02. They have come out with a kit, to re-circulate the oil back into the crankcase instead of the bottle. Hope this helps.

Palmeto Kid,
It could be your oil pan gasket, it could be blow by from the puke tube AND also it could be your rear main seal. My rear main seal was leaking and ruined my clutch. Gave me a good reason to get a SBC, and of course I replaced my rear main seal. Just something to think about !

This weekend I ditched the puke bottle. I put a 3/4" hose adapter in, and 5' of hose down to the axle. It is open to the atmosphere. no more bottle. I have not noticed anything drip out yet.

I need to clean the front of my engine up though. it is very nasty from 66k miles of a puking bottle. I will keep an eye on this, and see what is happening. I hope its nothing bad. Could be oil pan though. Its oily and nasty all the way around that dude.

How hard is it change the oilpan gasket?

firestorm,

Which dealer performed your TSB's? My warranty is almost up, want to get the oil pan gasket replaced soon.

I did the same thing, but since there is a better fix for the bottle, and the dealer is doing it under the warranty, I might as well let them.
After you clean the engine, look for the leaks, or signs of a wet pan. Mine was wet from the trans. cover, to about the fourth bolt hole on each side. As long as your truck is under 5yrs. or 100k mile, let the Dodge dealer do it. They had to loosen the motor mounts and raise the engine about 3" to get the pan out.

The local Dodge dealer. It is covered under the 5/100 warranty.

firestorm,

I should have stated my question better. I live in Central Florida, I purchased my truck at Holler Dodge but have not used any services offered by them or by Orlando Dodge. Which "Local Dealer" did you use? Are you happy with their service department?

Talking

Sorry about that. I got my truck from Holler, but orlando dodge did most of my work, untill the new dealership opened in Clermont. Clermont did the pan, and Orlando is doin' the bottle. I'll explain later.
Where abouts in Central Fl. do you live? I have been looking for a 'bomb buddy for a while'. I live in Lake County.

Well, I cleaned my engine up. I washed all the dirt and grime off the front gear case, and the oil pan. I let the truck sit in the barn all night.

The next morn. I retorqed the oilpan bolts, wich were all loose. I could tell they were leaking becuase there was a shiny, oily look aroiund the head of the bolts. THey werent leaking yet, but I could tell they were trying to start.

I installed some running boards I built over the weekend, and while under the truck, I noticed something. The truck had been sitting all night after the wash, and there was a dark spot on the cement about 6" diameter.

The puddle was accumulated by an oily substance leaking down from the fuel supply line that goes to the lift pump. Where the line turns into a plastic line, it was dripping off of the rubber protection tube that surrounds that plastic line. It smelt like oil. It was definately not fuel.

I could not tell what it was, or where it was coming from.

I don't know, unless it is a valve cover gasket. One thing I did find out. The TSB for the overflow bottle, is covered under the 3/36, and not the 5/100, according to Chrysler. Plus the mechanic showed me, it is a waste of time. All it does is move the tube to the back of the engine, instead of the front. The whole side of the motor, injection, P/steering, ect. has to come off to do it. Palmetto_kid, if you want to e-mail me, maybe we can meet up to look at it.

BigBlue pointed me in the direction of looking at the coverplate behind the liftpump. He said his leaked a little and did hte same thing.

I will check this out this evening, and report my findings.

I have found what is leaking. Trannsmission fluid.

I checked my NV4500, and it was low. Since it was saturday, I could not find any Castrol Syntorouqe(dealers where all closed), so I opted to top it off with Castrol Syntech.

I cant figure out where it is leaking. It drips off of the low point of the tranny (the bottom of the bellhousing), and is all over the underside of the tranny, 4x4 drive shaft, and alll up around the LP. I just dont know.

Everything in the engine compartment is dry. It is wet on the drivers side between the tranny and the frame.

help!

Is there some kind of vent on the nv4500 that might be "puking" the fluid out?

I had the same problem. It was the front seal in the transmission. I just had it fixed today, along with a new clutch. Good luck with it.
