Fleetguard or Mopar filters

I won't try to save a dollar on an oil filter.
ONLY Fleetguard Stratopore goes on my engine.
And I buy mine directly from Cummins.

I like the NAPA filter.......I find when ever I do an oil change at work and a Cummins is equipped with a NAPA filter, even a WIX today, there won't be any oil spilled when you remove the filter. This makes my job much easier as there isn't any spillage because the oil level is usually an inch or so below the top of the filter. Of course those dang Mopar, Fleetguard, Cummins filter leak all over when they are loosened....messy

I'd rather have a little oil mess than a BIG engine mess...
I read a while back to (1) let the engine cool a little
(2) loosen the filter a bit
(3) slip a plastic grocery bag over the filter
(4) spin off the filter and let it drop in the bag
Haven't lost a drop yet. Works like a charm.
BTW, only Fleetguard filters for my truck.

I'm totally with you on that one. In my research of oil filters for gasoline engines, I found the NAPA filters to be great quality for a reasonable amount of pocket dough. Sounds like this isn't the filter to be using on the Cummins, though. That's good to know...
Fleetguard it is. Thanks for the input.

The filter you get at your Dodge dealership (mopar) is, as stated before, a rebadged Fleetguard filter. Dodge just jacks the price up for you. I talk with the Cummins/Fleetguard guys here locally all the time. The Mopar filter for the Cummins is the base level Fleetguard filter. It is a cellulose (paper) filter. The other filter Fleetguard offers, and Dodge dealers do not carry, is the Stratopore filter. This is a synthetic-media filter, not cellulose. It filters to a finer micron. Also, if you get a water in your oil (this happens in very small amounts due to normal condensation) a cellulose filter can swell up and no longer allow oil to pass through. It will clog up and the oil will simply bypass the filter (no longer getting filtered.) So the advantage of the stratopore filter is that it is not affected by moisture. Water or no water in the oil, it will keep filtering. Worth the money in my opinion. Funny thing is I can get a stratopore filter at Cummins for less than a cellulose filter from the Dodge parts department!
Well I change my Oil every 3,000 so does it really matter if I run the bottom Fleetguard paper filter???? Yes I know you can go more than 3k on the oil but it is cheap insurance, plus I follow maintenance schedule B.
