How are you getting to the truck to pick it up? I will assume that you are flying, so you are limited to what you can carry. I would pick up a fuel filter and a wrench to change it with. Make sure it has a spare and if it is under the bed make sure it will come out from under the bed. Make sure it has a jack and lug wrench and the lug wrench fits the lugs on the truck. Yes I have had a flat and the lug wrench did not fit. Good Luck with your trip.

While you're in AZ pick up a spare belt and buy a 5 gallon container to have some extra diesel sitting in the bed, you never know.

Might want to check the fuel pressure before embarking on the trip back home.

I try not to do too much maintenance just prior to a road trip. One simple mistake on your part can leave you on the side of the road. What condition do you think this truck is in? I would bet it will make it to Alb. before it needs a filter. I'm not saying don't take one with you.., I just wouldn't start working on the truck before you leave for home..

I would say just do a good look over the truck check the fluids tire psi no wear in the steering and then just watch the gauges and listen for anything out of the ordinary good luck

Thanks alot PChouinard, you bring up a good point, never really thought of it that way but now i remember the first time i helped change the fuel filter on an 01 haha, it had some priming trouble. the truck is in amazing shape from what ive seen, which is why im driving 2500km to pick it up, so i think it should be fine i guess im just nervous haha.
Thanks again, Fred

I temporary gauge will work to check before you leave. I would want to know the condition of the pump before heading out on a long trip for the first time.

Torque your wheel nuts, the last guy may not have. It's pretty embarrassing when you lose a wheel and all the studs have sheared off because you relied on the last person to torque the wheel.
