First Trip to the Rockies

Making a trip to the Grand Junction Co. area, first time with a diesel pickup from Calif.. Other than regular maintenance will I need a fuel additive or anything else for my Cummins? Low temps. have been in the 20's could get colder. Will be camping out, so there won't be any power.

Take it from another Colorado CTD....get the additive! You'll thank me later when you get home, instead of writing to the help forum while stuck in Grand Junction...By the way, we just got dumped on as far as snow!!!

I have never jelled unless I have been in Idaho or Montana, you can't even get anything than #2 diesel in Utar. You may want to make sure your glow plugs are good though . What route are you taking to get to Grand Junction and where are you camping I could point you in the right direction.

I would think so. I've been up there with it down to 6* and managed to start with no additives. That won't happen again.

Also, be sure you have good, strong batteries.

I do have a little Honda 650 generator, would it be enough and how long to run it to make a difference in the morning?

I'm sure the generator would help, but with the PS and good batteries, you should be OK. With no additives, I cycled the grid heaters two or three times and it turned over a few times and cranked up. I ran a little rough for a few seconds and then it started purring, err, I mean rattling . Since the oil had thickened, I let it idle for about five minutes before moving it.
