First time with a 24V
I've been looking at a 2001 Dodge Cummins 2500 Quad Cab 4x4 Shortbed Six Speed with 85000 miles. I am new to 24V engines and new to the VP44. This truck is quite sound, drives smooth, engine has plenty of power, and no mechanical problems that I can tell. However, today we ran the codes and got the P0230 code, which as I have been reading has to do with either lift pump failure or faulty electrical connections to the lift pump. This was the only code that posted and besides that this truck is in immaculate shape. Should I stay clear of it because of the code or should I just have the dealership change out the lift pump? Also, since this truck only has 85000 miles doesn't it still fall under the Cummins 100,000 mile warranty on their motors? I think my Dodge warranty would be expired because they drivetrain warranty is not transferable. I want to thank you guys for all the help with my past truck and hopefully I wont need to much help with my new one, lol.

I would have dealer replace the lift pump.
Also, you are in the range where VP-44's start to die (80,000 to 180,000 miles). I would plan on that possibility but..... if you like it, I'd buy it. 01 is a great yr! In many ways it's the best of the 2nd Gens.
Maybe work a deal with the dealer for a spare VP-44, in the box, at cost... if you buy the truck?? Just a thought.
Should be around $800 - $900.

Thats a good idea, with getting an extra VP on standby I would rest a lot easier getting this truck. Thanks for the advice, I will probably have them replace the lift pump as well. This truck was a good find and I dont think Im going to pass up on it. Thanks again guys.

After some long negotiations I am now the proud owner of a 2001 Dodge Cummins Quad Cab 4X4 Six Speed all stock, but not for long. Thanks for the help guys, I will probably need some more when I start to upgrade. Thanks again.
