Finally got codes out of my '98.5 24v!!
Hello CTD'ers!
As I've been writing about over the past few days, I've got a sick '98.5 24v CTD [65,000 miles] sitting in the driveway
To make a very long story short, I managed to get it started--after a long battle--today and it seemed to be very happy idling away in the driveway. As it idled, I connected a laptop and an "AutoTap Pro" to the OBDII connector to see what I could see. As it idled, I got NO codes.
Later, after it reached about 190 degrees water temp, I shifted it to DRIVE--it immediately stalled. At that point, I ran a new scan and got the following:
P0216 Injector Timing Control Circuit
P0230 Fuel Pump Control Circuit
P1693 Circuit Fault; Tachometer
From what I've been reading, the P0216 is pretty indicative of a bad VP44. As for the P0230, I'm assuming this is the circuit inside the VP44 [the one controlling the distribution of fuel]?? How about the P1693? I'd really be grateful for your thoughts on any and all of these codes.
As I've been gearing up--in my mind at least--to replace the VP44 [out of warranty
], I've also been contemplating the KDP issue.
Do you know of anyone that has tech info about performing this procedure on a '98.5 24v? Perhaps you've seen some good threads about the KDP issue and the 24v CTD?
When I run searches on this, I get 12v procedures mostly [which is understandable]. However, I've just got a feeling in my bones that there are going to be subtle, yet important, differences between correcting the KDP on the 12v and the 24v. Thanks very much--it's info like yours that makes these forums a great thing for the regular guy
Have a great evening,

It's pretty much the same procedure. You can order a kit from www.tstproducts.com.
See my response in this thread concerning the P1693:
