Erratic throttle... electric problems?
Erratic throttle... electric problems?
Hey guys, my trucks having some issues. At first i thought it was the vp44 but now i'm thinking its something else. Truck will intermittently have this problem, throttle is only either at idle, or 1400 rpms. It does not climb like normal, it will jump straight to 1400 with any movement of the throttle pedal and will only go 1400rpms no matter the throttle position. The idle is really weak too. If i put it in gear at idle the truck bogs and dies. Also when limping home, it doesnt get going very fast at only 1400rmps, but the throttle will cut out like it has air in the lines of a gas motor. Furthermore the check engine light dings on.
I pulled codes with a friends smarty and it came up with three. one was 1693, then there was one for no connection between the ecm and the injection pump, but i cant remember the number, 1687 or something around there, and an old one (i think) for a map sensor voltage high.
Not sure the problem... tried cleaning as many electrical connectors as i could but it still happens. Grounds and bat. terminals are good. vp44 is only 40k old with good pressure and very rarely used with the comp box on anything but level 1. ANy help is appreciated! Thanks

From: North Carolina or Kentucky. Take your pick
You didn/t say andthing about fuel pressue.
Even if your water pump is leaking, you must report fuel pressure. Just joking.
Unfortunatelly you are building a case for your VP44 being the issue. How long since fuel filter replaced, not that it sounds like this. Some other possibilities are the cam sensor (located between IP and block, into back of gear cover like the VP44) and the crank sensor near starter on block. Either could be a contributor to issue. Dealers have a tool (DRBIII) that could help diagnois.

the code was a 1689 that dealt with the ip and ecm communication. fuel press is fine, with the HPFP from fass, the filter was about 3k ago, getting close but no biggie. i disconnected the comp, its old and has been cutting out every now and then. So far its been fine today but time will tell. I searched a little more and i'm banking on the comp... or apps... either are relatively cheap compared to the ip. any thoughts?
