Engine or transmission warm up time

My question is, I let my engine run for about four min. in this cold weather before driving off. Does the oil in the trany circulate more or better in neutral, or in park, or doesen't it make any difference? I've done it both ways, but now I'am doing it mostly in neutral with the brake on. I read someplace when your trany's hot to put it in neutral to help cool it off. But don't if that helps to warm it up. An answer to the trany warm up question would be helpful.
Thanks

waam Holland, Mich.
Unless your running an aftermarket or modifyed tranny, the Park position doesn't circulate the fluid.
I warm up in "N" or if I'm sitting in it "D" with the parking brake on.

In neutral helps warm the fluid up when it is cold and cools it down when hot. No fluid circulates through the cooler in park.

With a 4 min warm up time and a 2002 truck you should not have any problems with leaving it in park...unless you go to leave and the tranny does not engage which is drain back of your converter...then putting it in neutral will fill the converter with fluid

Re:Engine or transmission warm up time

Thanks to all on info for trany warm up time. This is my first diesel truck, and I don't know a whole lot about them. But I'am sure learning a lot of good info about dodge diesels, by reading things on these forum. I haven't seen any questions yet go unanswered. Keep up the good work.

waam Holland, Mich
diesels up to 1:59 to 1:69 2-6-03

Check me if I'm wrong here, but it seems like my previous trucks with auto's indicated in the owners manual that you should not idle for prolonged periods in park. My mechanic indicated that this was NOT because the pump does not circulate ATF through the cooler in park, but becaues the pump does not circulate AT ALL in park.

I also used the idle in neutral with the parking brake engaged method.

Bill Kondolay, (www.dieseltrans.com) THE MAN on trannys says to warm up in neutral. That's good enough for me!!!
