Hey Guys, i have a question regarding my beast. I currently have all my mods off due to a bad VP44 Warranty Issue. I started hearing a pinging sound a couple of months ago before I removed my mods. It's coming from the head I'm sure. I checked the valve clearance and everything was bang on. So I new I had a VP problem so I removed my injectors and put in originals and removed the rest of my mods. I then took it to dealership for VP replacement. I told them about the engine noise and they are telling me they can't hear any abnormal noise, but did they go with me for a drive so I could point it out to them nooooo. Any way it sounds like a bad valve. but it only happens at low RPM. thanks

 

More info that may help. I found the noise to be more evident when the engine warms up. It's very hard to describe but it sounds like a bad lifter in a gas engine. I'm going to check the rods tomorrow to see if any are bent.

 

Any luck? When was the last time the valve lash was checked or adjusted?

 

Hey CTD, I'm gonna check the push rods tomorrow. The valaves were checked by Cummins about 2 weeks ago, That costed me $250.00 for nothing as I set the valves about a MONTH AGO and they really wer not out that much. Cummins told me they were gonna go through the top end when I took it to them but all they did was check the valves I was not impressed as I told them I had checked that already. We'll see what I can find tomorrow.

 

when you run bigger injectors the motor creates a pinging noise from all the raw fuel at idle.......... if you go to the sled pulls you will here theres are really loud almost sounds like a rod knock.....im not sure if it is bad for the motor or not but thats what i know its from
