engine misses out

I bought my 1999 24v Cummins w/ approx 34000 miles on it. It has about 68000 on it now. The whole time I have owned this truck the engine will miss out,it has done it a couple times just sitting there idiling, and several times going down the highwayI have taken it to Dodge and they tell me if it dont show a code they cant do anything. Any suggestions....
(total it has probably missed about 25 times approx thru the miles)

KansasMan I bought my truck with 99,600 miles on it. Ran fine through the rest of the 400 miles of warranty. From my live and learn experience if I had your truck and the warranty I'd have it at the Dodge place tomorrow morning telling them to check the fuel pressure from the transfer (lift) pump down the road at wide open throttle. If it's less than 8psi I'd have them change it out. Had this done out of my pocket because I was over 100K miles and I wasn't happy with the 9psi I had.

Then I'd be worried about the injector pump (VP-44) because you DONT want to buy this thing out of pocket. You could get a used Toyota for the price of this baby. If you had a bad lift pump because the low psi will slowly kill it as it gets it lubrication from the fuel flowing through it. Right now I'm troubleshooting a situation where this may be my problem. See "Sounds like engine running on 1 cylinder" under the 24 Valve engine and drivetrain section.

Make sure the shop didn't break your diagnostic port under the dash and the pins are shorting together. I solved my miss problem a while back by finding this. If they don't have anything to plug a tool into your truck will "never" throw codes.

Man I love my truck but lately its gettin to be like a woman - high maintenance.

Re:engine misses out

About four 6 months ago Dodge did put a new lift pump on it for me. It still does it. They said at that time they did run it shown the road and it was good. I will check my plug though, Thanks for the info....
