Engine Knock

I have a loud engine knock at all rpm ranges, seems to run fine, oil pressure is good. I took it to a dodge dealership and was told that after the injector cut out test was done the noise went away on cylinder #6. They are telling me that it is a problem with the bottom end a spun rod bearing or main bearing for cylinder #6. I still think it could be an injector but am unsure. Has anyone else seen this or had this happen to them?

Sounds like you are bombing it and pull a trailer. My bets are number 6 has a scored piston from to high egt,s.

Plus I heard the Edge EGT values are off up to 200 degrees or more maybe. At least thats what I read in another thread when an Edge owner spoke with an Edge tech. Good Luck.

Another possibility would be number 6 piston scored due to use of a FRAM oil filter.

west has it right. the seal ring on fram filters has a tendency to break down, sending small bits of itself into the oiling system.

These bits tend to lodge in the piston cooling nozzles, and screech, you have a bad cylinder.

Sucks, but that is why there is a recommended filtration list for all major OEM's

I have only used the dodge filters for the oil and the oil changes done by a dodge dealer. I have the edge set at 1200 degrees on the egt, so I dont think this is to high is it? I have already ordered a new complete running engine I just did not want to hear that it was possible that the injector was causing the noise. I to thought that something was wrong in the bottom end. I have only had the truck for 2 months and the previous owner maybe didnt change oil enough. Any other info is appreciated.

My point was that it says EGT's are at 1200 degrees, but may really be between 1400-1500 degrees. I do not speak from first hand knowledge just from what I have researched because I was thinking of getting the Edge with Attitude myself, but now am leaning towards Adrenaline because I have not heard of similair problems with it. You may want to invest in mechanical gauges just as a precaution and to protect your livelyhood. JMO.

Be aware some of Dodge's filters are also made by FRAM...

Where was your thermocouple, before or after turbo? If it was after, you may have burned it up.

well arent we having all the luck? mine is in the shop with a spun #6 rod bearing. but it has 138k on it and i've only had it 10k and 6 months. its a 2006 dually with a 6 speed and i'm starting to think that somebody had a chip in it before i got it. the top of EVERY piston is melted and some rings are broken. there is severe cylinder wall scoring especially on #6...but its getting a used motor out of another 2006 with "60k" so hopefully i dont get screwed again.
