engine cuting out
Guys need alittle help, my uncle has a 2000, 3500, CTD, 6 speed and says that it starts to cut out like it going to die somewhere between 2500 and 2700 RPM :-. He said it doen't matter if he is easing into it or had it on the floor, what gear it in or anything. Once he's in sixth gear it won't pull past 2500 RPM no matter how long you stay in it . Still has good power off idle and runs out good till he hits the higher revs. As far as we know it still has the original lift pump and injection pump, he bought the truck with just over 100K on it and it has around 140K on it now. Any suggestions would really help, he hates to take it to a dealer and pay their high prices. Thanks

Re:engine cuting out
140K is ALOT for an original lift pump (in some cases the injector pump too). my lift pump went at around 40K. you may want to get a fuel pressure gauge on there and check the lift pump. if its bad it can very quickly kill your very expensive injector pump
just a thought

Assuming the fuel filter has been serviced, I would then check the lift pump psi/volume. Next I would scan the ECM and see if there are any pump relatated codes. With those miles it may be worth at least having the dealer scan the engine controller.
