EGT temps

My EGT temps seem a little high. If I put my foot down to pass somebody on a cold start my EGT temp will easily climb to 1000 - 1050 and then fall when i let off of the gas! If i am cruising down the freeway on flat terrain at 70mph I will be at a steady 800. IF you add and sort of hill or climb I have to slow down and downshift or my temp will raise to 1000-1200 every time. I am not even pulling a load so this doesn't sound right to me.

It seems to me my engine is having to work too hard to pull its own load, but I dont know why? Is my gear ratio to high for the size truck that I have?
Could I have my EGT probe set wrong, Or is this normal and as long as I am vigil all will be ok?

My air filter is clean and the only thing I have done recently is replaced my vp44 6 months ago, I have had no problems since.

completely stock? sounds about right. get an intake and a free flowing exhaust and it will help your egts a ton.

Yea it is completely stock. I am thinking it is normal too, but my Duramax was completely different, soooo. . .

Better educated than guessing.

yea, some of the 3rd gen cummins run 1300-1400 range stock. i wouldn't worry about it. they'll handle 1250 all day long. spend a few bucks and get a different intake and cut that muffler off and you'll see a big difference in temps. i had a straight pipe/intake/power puck for a while and i never saw above 950 unloaded.

At 70 mph a 4" lift and those size tires add a lot of resistance compared to stock. Could be a factor.

Sounds normal. Just keep the spikes below 1400-1500 and the continuous below 1300-1350 and you should be just fine.... I'm pulling 1500rpm at 65mph at about 750-800F and 2000rpm at 80mph seeing 850F (empty).

Almost all 24v, 2nd Gen, CTD's will do 700-750* at 70 mph... level cruise, no wind. Your lift is probably worth the extra 50* in the summer.
I do 750* at 70 mph with my 35" tires. Your hitting 1200* on a slight hill sounds too high, but it depends on the hill ... and the OAT!
Make sure you have no wind when you test!
If you had better air in (intake) and out (4" exhaust), you would be around 750*.
50* is not worth that kind of money, IMO.
