Draw Straw Problem, maybe?

Evening everyone,

Have a quick question about the Draw Straws. I've had mine installed for a bit and am pleased with it. However within the last few months I have gone through 2 Airtex LP(mounted on the frame). The current one I am running lasted about a month Well maybe it's not the pump....

The problem I am having is well lower than normal pressure throughout RPM, as well as the pump just can't flow like it should. As soon as I touch the Go Pedal, pressure drops about 2.5psi, and that is revving up to like 1000.

My question is, could I have maybe sucked something up through the draw straw that is caught somewhere on the suction side of the pump and not allowing proper flow to the pump?

Reason I ask is because I have an Airdog 100 on the way and I sure as heck don't want something like this happening with the $$$ Airdog.

Should I remove the fuel line from the suction side of the pump and try to pressurize that line and clean it out? Fuel Filter is fairly new and PSI was fine wednesday morning. Shut the truck off, re-start after 10 mins and pressure is way off.

Thanks in advance!

Its possible that something is caught in there. If there is something that big in there, I'd want to see what it is. Blowing it out still leaves it in the tank (and inside the strainer), so it will likely just re-occur.

Is you current fuel pump noisy? If you are blocking the fuel source, you will likely be cavitating the pump, and should generate a good amount of noise. Another option is the 5-gallon bucket test, draw fuel from the bucket instead of the tank to eliminate the draw straw from the equation. If it is better, then you likely have an issue. If its the same, then keep looking.

Thanks Tate, I may try that in the near future.

I went to a friends place and tried working on the fuel system a bit. I disconnected the suction side line, let that drain out and I put air through. Nothing came out of the line while gravity drain, and when I pressurized the suction line, I left the tank cap on. After quite a bit of pressure fuel came back out of the suction line and looked like normal flow to me. So I went to the pressure side and blew air that way and same happened, nothing out of the line/pump. Hooked everything back together and bumped the starter, pump just made weird chattering noises. In order for PSI to even read on my gauge, I had to leave my fuel filter canister drain open, and I had to pressurize the tank itself in order to get fuel to and through the pump.

Also checked for corrosion and nothing was there. The weird thing is sometimes I while driving around 40kmh, my pressure will start rising up to about 10 - 12.5 psi cruising. But once I start to accelerate, pressure drops way off to about 2.

So maybe it is the pump after all, being as it couldn't draw fuel from the tank to the fuel filter canister by itself?

And as far as the draw straw goes, how far down should the straw be? Should the tip be showing through the bottom of the sending unit, or should it be cut shorter a bit so that it is up inside the unit a bit?
