Was climbing a good size hill right out of town with empty snowmobile trailer with tst on 5 and floored it and a bang. Now there is no movement in 2 wheel 4 wheel nothing i am thinking either input shaft or destroyed another valair. It does not make any noise in any gear. Wont have anytime to look at until sunday.

 

Yea, sounds like an input shaft to me. If it broke it wouldn't make much noise. If there's no change in sound when you take it out of gear or put it in gear it would make sense for the input shaft on the trans to be your culprit.

 

is it common to break an input shaft in a standard tranny?

 

No, it's not too common but when you're throwing power down, like floored w/ a box on 5x5, up a decent grade, especially with any extra weight behind you...well, bad things can happen. I'll be impressed if he did break the input shaft. If I were JD4440, I'd put the sucker on a mantle in my garage.

 

so got it apart and sure enough input shaft is in 2 now what i am try to see if i have enough money for dual disk and input shaft maybe i can start pullin again i will see

 

That same empty snowmobile trailer took out 4th gear in my old 98 12v! Pullin it empty one day, turned a corner running through the gears and "puck" no forth gear! That darn trailer is evil!
