Does a Jake Brake kill the warranty
Does a Jake Brake kill the warranty
Looking at a 2002 3500 6 speed that has a jake brake, will it kill what is left of the warranty. Truck is in Scottsdale Az, so I may be buying long distance without getting a good look at it, hoping to find someone to take a look at it for me before the purchase.
Thanks.
Thanks.

Hopefully others will chime it. Also, if it does void some part of the warranty, it would only be the exhaust, turbo, and maybe the ECM. The parts that go bad (most of the time) are the lift pump and the fuel injection pump. These are the most replaced parts on 98.5 to 2002 Dodge diesel trucks. There are many after market fixes to correct this. If I were you, I would ask of big brother Dodge installed the "in tank" lift pump fix. If so, this will require more work to fix it right if you buy it. Most common fixes are the Vulcan relo kit, Genos relo kit, FASS, Glaicer, Air Dog, and some others that run 2 lift pumps in series. All systems have their pros and cons, but all will work much better than the factory setup.
Basically, the lift pump pulls fuel out of the tank to the fuel injection pump (VP-44). The VP-44 is lubricated and cooled by fuel alone. When the lift pump starts to fail (they fail often) and you don't replace it, the VP-44 will fail. Factory lift pumps run from 75 dollars to 200 dollars and are easy to replace. The VP-44 runs about 1300 dollars and will take a few hours to replace.
If you read through the 2 gen engine forum, you will see this often and what people have done to fix it. Also, if it does not have a fuel pressure gauge, you should install this asap.
Enjoy your new truck if you get it!! I Love mine!!!

Make sure the warranty is transferable...A dealer can run the vin to tell you for sure..
My Jacobs e-brake was dealer installed before I took delivery of the truck I had ordered - the e-brake installation was part of the deal. It, therefore, was covered by the Dodge bumper-to-bumper warranty. It carries a Mopar part number.
