Re:diesel fuel mileage

On the rare occasion I check mine, it gets between 18 and 20.5 depending on how heavy my right foot is. I have heard where people pick up 2 mpg just cleaning the IAT. Have not done that on mine yet.
How many miles on the truck you have?
This is my third one and they don't run real good till you get the first 100k on them.

Re:diesel fuel mileage

How are you determing fuel milage? My computer is usually +/- 5% from what the math says, which has a lot to do with how long i want to play with the nozzell.

Re:diesel fuel mileage

My 04 4x4 auto has been getting 17.5 -19 mpg

I drive 100 miles a day to work mostly freeway with some stop and go. When the highway is open 75-80 mph little over 2k rpm. Sometimes in snow in 4wd partway

7000-5000' elevation and cold mornings

Took it to K.C. got 21.5mpg going with a slight tail wind and all that loss of elevation. Quite happy. My old toyota with a V6 and 5 spd averaged about 17 mpg

Miles driven compared to amount to refill to the same spot.

Re:diesel fuel mileage

You state you have changed your tire size are you calculating the diff in your speedo as mentioned here. you can prolly add somewhere near 6% to your actual miles traveled. and that would chage the mpg to the good.

Re:diesel fuel mileage

I have been consistantly getting 23-24 mpg. A little lower during the winter. My overhead computer reads slightly higher ;D

Intake Atmospheric Temperature sensor

ok i ordered an Intake Atmospheric Temperature sensor from my chrysler dealer (be in Thursday next week), also going to change fuel filter and they said something about checking the "fuel pressure" ?

From the tire difference website i found that 60 miles is actually 64 miles so guess that is inching the mileage up a little more than i was taking into account.

fuel milelage is a big issue for me (thats primarily why i changed to a diesel). up till now i have been towing a 40" gooseneck with a 5.3 auto and in all honesty, it was working hard but did a great job. only drawback was the 6 mpg when i was towing. I put 72000 miles on it from mar 03 to dec 4 03 !!

do you let your truck warm-up any now, since it is colder out. I do and my milage goes down because of it. otherwise I get about 20 in the summer and around 18-19 in the winter depending on how long I let it warm-up for

I purchased my truck when it had 5 miles on it. Now I have almost 18k miles on it. Since the day I drove it off the lot I have been getting constantly 14.5 mpg. Combination 50/50 city & highway.

Am I missing something? I here guys say they get 20+ mpg doing 70 down the freeway towing 8,000 lbs going uphill into a head wind.

"20+ mpg doing 70 down the freeway towing 8,000 lbs going uphill into a head wind"

Ya whoever tells you that is pulling your leg.

My truck from the dealer consistently ran 19 mpg and 17 mpg on winter fuel, unloaded miles running 70 mph hwy.

Best I've ever seen out of my truck was 21mpg coming back from Oklahoma. Maybe I had a nice tail wind to help me out?

With my new tires I average 17.5 mpg. It's the luck of the draw. Everyone gets different numbers b/c of engine and driving habit's.

You might want to try a different brand of fuel. I have found a 1-2 mpg difference between brands of fuel for my truck. If I fuel at the local Flying J, I average 17.5 mpg in town. Fuel at Texaco and I average 16 mpg. Just something to think about.

I see that most of you have automatics. On my 2000 I drive 120 miles to & from work from 5300' to 6666'. Mostly highway and some stop & go in town. I use the cruise control as much as possible ( 80% of the time) and I get 23 mpg consistantly. Fastest speed on the trip (except for passing) is 67 MPH. I think the use of the cruise control has a lot to do with mileage.

I get between 16-18 mpg. That's hand calculated. My overhead reads about 2-3 mpg lower than what I actually get. Might be time to check my IAT.
