Thanks cville6,
I'll test it first, but might just replace it as a precaution. Looks like I'll be getting almost the entire fuel system up to the engine, except the tank! Maybe I'll replace that SOB too while I'm at it. Kind of wish I had a 5 spd like you've got, will have one in my next truck.

I have replaced a bunch of those "units" that drop into the tank, if you have the metal fittings they will rust and start to leak--I replace them with the plastic ones.

Fuel Pump....

Been there done that....I bought my electronic fuel pump at Cummins for $149.00 I believe. It took me an hour to install because it is a Bit__h to replace because there is not much room to work!

There is no fuel pump in the tank, I know because I have had to replcae my float.

Do yourself a favor and pull the truck from the dealer. I don't know why they would tell you your pump was bad due to a leak..? Did they pressure test the lift pump? May be I missed something....quickly scanned the posts!

Hell no they didn't test it. The tech, who I think is still in high school, just looked at the fuel module on top of the tank, called it a fuel pump, and said it was leaking. Then they charged me 69.50 to tell me that. I have no confidence in them. They also tried to bill me $658 for an oil change, trans. service, and diff. service. Oh, and the fuel pump leaking diagnosis. Kept the truck 3 full days to do that too. Clowns. I think I'll be OK with replacing fuel lines, and if necessary the LP and fuel module/tank cap thing.

You will get burned every single time you take your truck to a dealer. Thats plain fact.

Class Action Lawsuit

I think many of us have more than enough to start a class action suit against Dodge. Mine has been screwed up since the first month I bought it new. I just had a rebuilt IP and a LP and fuel filter put on mine two months ago and one month ago it started quitting, loosing throttle. I had it checked for codes at Auto Zone and it showed that the IP had internal timing malfunction. I took it back to the shop (under warranty mind you) yesterday and told them what I knew at which the manager said "We will probably just put you another pump on it" I left and by the time I got back home they called and said my truck was ready and the bill was $525.00. They put a APPS on it and said it is fixed. Those two trips set me back $2300.00 dollars. Where is the end to this nonsense? This truck only has 106,000 miles on it and I'm on the third IP. I have a Freightliner that has 450,000 miles and it has NEVER been in the shop for ANYthing major at all. Dodge is junk.

Guys, why do you keep putting stock lift pumps and carburetor pumps on these trucks ?

There is a reason I preached about the Walbro and a 15 PSI regulator at the injection pump. That may not guarantee the VP44 lives forever, but it will guarantee that it doesn't starve and that is probably big a step in the right direction.

I bought a stock replacement pump because I need my truck to run now.
I'll procure the aftermarket supplies and work to change it out later when I get some free time. (hopefully for the LAST time)

Have you come up with a concise parts list? I would like to look into it, but don't have time to read 10,000 posts.

Last time I asked a similar question I was called lazy. I was just asking how much the pump costs.

I am not calling anyone lazy. I have spent a ton of time writing those posts and I don't have time to answer individual questions. The "Implementing a Walbro" post has some parts lists in it and I think a few Walbros are going to get implemented this weekend.

One guy found Walbros selling for $110 on eBay.

Thanks.

You should (really, I'm not breaking your marbles here) get a kit together and market it. I know your into sharing info and all, but there is money to be made here, and some folks don't have the time or "know how" to get all the parts together.

Just a thought.

I don't want to cause any trouble here, but I put in a vulcane big line kit with the pump back near the tank. I can't get the psi to go below 14 climbing a hill with the thing towing and floored.

I thought the walpro was only a 65 gph pump? the carter is 100gph. Any thoughts?

Bob

The engine only needs 40 GPH, even less.
