WAS JUST INFORMED BY DEALER THAT MY LIFT PUMP THAT I EXPECT IS GOING BAD (AGAIN, AFTER 32000 MILES) IS ONLY WARRANTED BY CHRYSLER FOR 12000 MILES OR 12 MONTHS.
GUESS THATS THE RULES SO I JUST SUCK IT UP AND INSTALL ANOTHER ONE OUT OF MY POCKET BEFORE I HAVE TO REPLACE ANOTHER INJECTOR PUMP ALSO.
LOGIC TELLS ME THAT IF THE ORIGINAL WAS WARRANTED FOR 36000 OR 3 YEARS A REPLACEMENT BY CHRYSLER WOULD CARRY THE SAME WARRANTY?
ANYHOW, IS FORD AND CHEVY THE SAME? SOMETHING ELSE TO FACTOR IN WHEN I GET READY TO TRADE. BEEN HOLDING BACK HOPING FOR A DESIGN CHANGE THAT GOT RID OF THE "VAN LOOKING" FRONT CLIPS THEY SWITCHED TO IN 03.
SURE WAS HOPING TO SEE THE POWER WAGON CONCEPT GO INTO PRODUCTION. OH WELL , MAYBE AN INTERNATIONAL NEXT.

 

The lift pump is covered under the cummins 100k mile warranty. Not dodge or chrysler.

 

Yup, they have to replace as many as are necessary during the 100K warranty period. Someone is trying to pull your leg.

 

I have 97000 on it now---- have a trip to Ar---NM and California coming up in a couple weeks so by the time i get back the warranty will be expired.
am expeirencing a fluctuating fuel pressure (intermittent) on my pod gauge inside.
will be cruising at 70 mph with fuel pressure readings at 11 lbs and will drop to 5 lbs and stay there for 10 minutes or 3 hours ?? then back to 11 and then drops again. No consistancy just back and forth with no apparrent reason

Your pump is bad. Have you showed the dealer what it does? I don't know about chevy or ford.

 

Typicaly when you get a part replaced you only get a 12/12 warranty. That's pretty much a standard.

1) Guys are trying to help you and let you know that Cummins covers the lift pumps.

2) No dis-respect but, when you type in CAPS it's concidered YELLING at people.

Seriously herb, you've been spouting that "I'm going to trade my truck in on a Chevy or a Ford" thing as long as you have been on here.

I have tried to help you on several occasions, but I am tired of the whining.

All the trucks have their good and bad points. If you want to buy something else, just go do it.

 

I don't know where you are coming from amartinson , i have been an avid chrysler person since i bought my first one in 1969. have not bought anything but chrysler since then.
show me ONE post where i ever made reference to buying a Ford or Chevy.

when i read some of the replies on here, it made me think back to my last trip to cummins. i was talking to the service manager and i asked him if my blown turbo seals might be covered thru cummins and, i asked about if they could handle the throttle linkage recall that i had recieved a notice on. he told me that when dodge bought the engines, it was put into the contract that dodge would handle all of the warranty and recall work. i am sure that you guys are speaking from experience - i just wonder why they told me that and wouldnt do anything for me.

 

You are right.

Part of the deal between Cummins and Dodge is that Dodge handle the warranty,
but they have to keep and honor the 100,000 mile on the engine,
which it would have from Cummins in any other vehicle other than Dodge.

It's always been the 100,000 mile, but prior to late 2002, it was 5 years,
last batch of 2002's were 7 years or 100,000 miles, whichever comes first.

Bumper to bumper was always 3 years or 36,000 miles, mainly for the rest of the vehicle.

Lift pump and injection pump, being integral engine parts, are covered under the 100,000 mile,
but still need to be handled through Dodge.

Some Dodge Dealerships still refer the engine work to Cummins, as they don't have qualified Diesel technicians, but again, you have to deal with Dodge to get the warranty work.

I believe both sides are somewhat true. It is the diesel engine warranty that covers the lift pump. We refer to it as the "Cummins engine warranty" because it comes with the Cummins engine, but it is offered and administered by Chrysler. I don't believe we can take our trucks to Cummins for a warranty repair.
