dead petal again

hello i have a 2002 3500 4x4 ive been having problems with it having a dead petal, but it doesnt do it all the time. i never had a minutes trouble out of it until i started using diesel kleen, if that makes any sence. never had a check engine light come on. i thought it was the apps so i changed it, the truck has more power but its still doing it. is there something else that can be causing this dead petal other than the injector pump? and on the 02 can you do the key on and off to retrieve the codes? thanks for any help.

thanks 2busy for the responce, no there are no mods on the truck. im going to clean the map sensor and see if that will solve anything, i just hope it aint the ip going out. somebody said that it could be the throttle valve, is that what they are calling the ip module on the side of the pump?

The throttle body??? check your codes! key on off on off on, and watch your odometer, If you have both, 0216 and dead peadle, then your more than likely going to need a new VP44.

isn't there a way of "resetting" the throttle position sensor by doing some kind of key thing and pushing the pedal in or something like that? i thought i read a post on this board about that. i have a 2000 3/4 ton 4x4 stock with auto that sometimes it seems that when i am driving and want to pass or go up a hill, i press on the pedal and it will go a ways before it starts to pick up. give you an example, i was towing an 18' trailor with 2 kawasaki mules on it from houston. i had the o/d turned off and the truck had no gitup and go. drove back at 55 mph without overdrive and got 11 mpg. driving to work one way is about 45 miles, and all highway driving at 65-70 mph and i have been averaging about 15-16 mpg. my truck is a 2000 3/4 ton 4x4 with auto, 3.55 gears and 285/75r16 tires. i have been running lucas fuel additive in it at every fillup, that stuff to help with the low sulpher fuel. love my truck and think it should have more umph....any thoughts?

yes there is a way of resetting the apps. you have too disconnect both neg battery terminals, with both unhooked turn the key on and let it sit jor a minimum of 30minutes. after it sits reconnect both cables and with the key in the on position press the petal slowly to the floor and slowly let it up,then turn the key off. it should be reset. as for as additives i dont care to much for the lucas i find it doesnt work. i use diesel kleen by power service its in a grey bottle. you might try cleaning the iat and the map sensor with carb cleaner.

I cured my dead peddle by "re-setting" my VP injection pump....

..."set" the old one on my tool cart and "reset" the new one in position.

bill the iat sensor(intake air temperture) measures the temperture of the intake air to determine how much fuel to be used. most gas motors use them too.

I had same thing with my 2002 it started when I followed a slow car up a steep grade, I was pulling my boat and I should of dropped another gear but wasn't paying attention. I think I got VP44 hot. I changed batteries because the ones in truck were originals, no fix $ 135.00 next I changed the throttle position senser, no fix $374.00 then I went to VP44 pump and that did the job. $1045.00. I had cooked the computer on pump. I should of went to auto zone and borrowed scan tool, it would of saved me a bunch of money.

well black dog ive done the first two steps already, and even cleaned all the battery connections hoping for a MIRACLE but still does it. i guess im just still hoping for a miracle that i dont have to change the pump, its just funny that it didnt start doing it until i started putting diesel kleen in the fuel, but then again i didnt start addind the additive until the truck started getting kind of sluggish too.

I know this thread is kind of old, but I am haveing a simmilar problum. I am working on a buddys 2002 and the peddle will just go dead out of know where. It will not rais rpm, no smoke, nothing. I held it to the floor for about 10 seconds and then I heard a pop, then it worked fine. My buddy said that it has done that for him as well, or if he pushes in the clutch, and kills the engine, then restarts it, it will clear it up as well. It has been happening more and more, I am thinking vp44 but the truck only has 80k on it, and it runs fine when not doing this. Any Ideas? truck is stock.
Thanks

I just lost My IP at 82 and change also an 02. Check for codes. If you have dead peddle and the 216. Think IP in your near future.
