Dead pedal gone

I'm new to this forum, however I have been visiting this site for a while looking for help with my 2001 2500, anyhoo thanks to any of you that posted help to folks, maybe now I can help someone. Here's a brief history of what happened to my truck with symptoms; I was coming back from deer lease one day and a car in front of me was going slow, so I got off of the accelerator and when I got back on it, truck started losing power, truck went to idle and began to make noise like it was trying to rev up but sounded sick, the same just got slowly worse over time, btw odo had approx 100,001 miles on it when this started what a suprise, it finally got to the point that every time I would leave the house it would cut out, dead pedal and blow white smoke, to remedy this I would quickly turn off the key, and then back on, 95% of the time this would fix it, if not I would do this till it acted right, meanwhile mechanics (dealer, shadetree, and pals)told me everything from you need a $ 2000 inj pump replacement to you need a bell crank assembly tps to have you changed your filter? DUH yes 10 times, finally I found out a lift pump from O reilly's cost about $160 and I could do it myself and it needs to be done anyway with lift pump replacement sooooooo........ at odo 125,704 I did it myself and so far so good, I'm at about odo 126,500 and no dead pedal as of yet. Cross your fingers and I'll keep you guys informed.

Was Gone

I think there's a black cloud following me with this truck, problem back, done it about 6 times so far, bought this truck to last 4 ever, $2000 fix from dealer looks like next step, I'm mad enough to spit, is it just me or did they jack the price up on these pumps(injection) before or after they knew about problems?

You certainly don't need to spend $2K for a VP44 from a Dodge dealer. They're all rebuilds anyway. Check out Industrial Injection or other aftermarket sources.

Matter of time buddy. They don't fix themselves, that is for sure.

You can get a pump for right around $1,100 + core.

I don't know where you are in Texas, but give Michael a call at hotroddiesels.com at 832-932-1432 and see how his price to supply and change out the VP44 compares. He's located in Hitchcock, between Houston and Galveston.
