I think there is a carryer difference.the 3.55 gear set has different carrier than the 4.10.A buddy of mine spent like 600 an somethin bucks to swap 3.55 for a 4.10 set an they didn't fit.

There is a carrier split. I changed from 4.10 to 3.54 gears about 6 months ago. I needed a new ring and pinion (obviously) and a different carrier. Should be all you need though other than fluid, bearings...stuff like that.

Guys, every source shows the carrier split at 4.10/4.56, not 3.54/4.10.

Can anyone post up part numbers for the carriers they swapped?

The OP was inquiring I believe about the whole assembly. Couple of things to be aware of, brakes are smaller and different on the front 60, and no real way to change the 01 brakes to the 98. Not a real big deal, but less braking available. You also have to make sure that if you have 4WABS on your 01 that the 98 also has it. If your 01 has Disc rears, you would have to swap them over, I believe you can do that.

i want to replace both axles as a unit. like take off brake caliper, undo DS, and undo control arms, and stuff. Then put the whole other axle in. both fronts have disc brakes and both rears have drum brakes.

Then both are 2 WABS, you are good other than to remember you have a 98 axle up front for parts replacement.

you better check the speedo pick up. I don't know what year the change was made but your 2001 pick up is in the diff housing and I think the early 98 and older is on the back of the transmission.

Cool, thanks for the clarification, so Auto guys with a 70 are safe, only the 80 requires a change.

well i started my swapp.THE FRONT. first off the tie rod is shorter on the 98 than the 01. the upper control arm mounting hole on the 98 is smaller . on the lower control arm, the alignment cam, is smaller on the 98 than the 01. but the bushing is the same size? trying to figure this out yet. lower control arm mounts are a little different. i think they will work. the brake lines, track bar, shocks, spring cups, drive shaft ,cad are all good to go.
THE REAR. the 01 has a different style of arm thing that links the axle to the frame. to tell the brakes someting? the leaf springs mount up good. the rubber line from the frame to the frame to the diff, has to be changed over to 01. and the parking brake cables are different. i am hopeing i can use all my 01 stuff on the 98. will post more tomorrow. any questions or suggestions please post.

Keep the 98 steering linkage, it is a T-Type, for some reason they went back to a Y type in 2000.
