Dana 70 Rebuild ???s
I snaped my rear pinion last week for my first sled pulling event. Im gonna try to do the rebuild myself and what kind of pullers and special tools i need to do it, I have a ring and pinion set on the way with new shims and bearings. But as far as getting the old bearings off the carrier assembly im not sure what kind of puller in need. Any people with some expierence on these rears would be of great help thanks in advance. Brett

I think you will be wasting your money rebuilding the D70 if you intend on sled pulling with a D70 and an engine like what your sig describes......you need a D80.....I think now would be the perfect opportunity for a swap.

I agree wit CTDnut. However, if you're intent on re-using the 70, invest in some setup bearings and buy/rent a case spreader. The carrier bearings are set with preload and it's a bear to hammer that center section in over and over (and over) as you're setting the gear lash. Don't ask me how I know As for old carrier bearings, I usually just cut them off with a cutoff wheel...carefully! Get a good slice into them and a tap with the punch and they let go. Good luck!
