Dana 70/Dana 80
Dana 70/Dana 80
Ok, I was under the impression that my '01 2500 4x4 had a Dana 80 rear end. In reading some messages on this board, I see people with '01s talking about finding a D80 to replace their D70. So do the '01 have the D70 or D80?
Simple ---- (covers at least the 01 and 02's)
2500 with Automatic=Dana 70
2500 with Manual (5 or 6 spd)= Dana 80
All 3500=Dana 80
Only Real Difference between Dana 80 in the 2500 and 3500 is the outer wheel assembly for the dual wheels.

The rear difference between the D-70 and it's older brother the D-80 is it's ability to carry much more weight, and take much higher torque loads. The D-80 is rated at 2,000lb-ft higher in short duration torque, and 500lb-ft in continuous torque. The obvious differences are the D-80 has a 4" axle tube, where the D-70 is only 3.5". There is even a difference between the SRW 3500, 2500 series with a D-80 and the DRW 3500 series D-80, the latter being the higher rated.
