Crank Trigger/Sensor replacement

Needing to replace the crank sensor on my 99 2500 . Not my everyday truck , so I ve been putting it off not knowing what to expect . I ve got to do it in the parking lot where I have it parked and was worried about not getting it finished in time as to not leave it disassembled onernite .

Is this a big job ? I know the starter needs to be dropped , do I need a forklift for the desiel starter . Are any special tools required ? Any help would be useful , thanks , Charlie

Only thing I could add to the above is iirc the starter needs 12 point wrench or sockets to get the bolts out.

Yep, 10 MM.

I bought a cheap NAPA wrench and made an extension out of 1/2" rod for it to get better leverage. ( cut the open end part off, drilled the rod down 1-1/2", shoved the wrench in and flattened it )

Some 10 MM 3/8" drive 12 point sockets would be good to have as well.

I used a small jack on the 10 MM wrench to get leverage when I changed contacts in my solenoid. Didn't need the jack the next month when I changed the CKP. Check your solenoid contacts while you have it off. It may save you a starter R&R.
