Coolant leak in front of motor
Coolant leak in front of motor
On my friends 01, he is getting a bad coolant leak when the truck is running. He said that he has heard a squeal also. He can not tell where the leak is coming from due to the fan throwing it all around. What is the most likely suspect? water pump?? He is pretty sure it is not from any of the hoses.
Thanks in advance!!

the pump is right behind the fan, it's possible. About a 20 minute changeout. Can do it w/ fan and shroud in place (been there, done that). Mine squealed alot, but didnt leak. It's held in with 2 bolts. That's it. Used a 3/8" breaker bar with cheater to get the belt off (changed to a gatorback on reinstallation), pulled the 2 bolts to the pump, wiggled it out, wiggled it in (used gasket tacker to keep the gasket in place) reconnected, belted, filled.. good to go.
Try shooting some WD40 into the forward end of the pump bearing (near the center nut) and see if the squeal goes away for a bit (I was doing this every 3 days).
The pump is the one on the right of the alternator/tensioner pulleys.

After you replace it, refill through the rad cap, with the plug (small one with orange loctite) removed from the head. That's your high point vent.

Thanks Invader, Took about 30 minutes. Mostly due to some long necks. Do you know if the older (99) style valve covers fit an 01? I like them better. My paint is flaking off mine real bad. I will be in your neck of the woods real soon doing some training.
