confused about P0216 code

Hello all...I have a 02 2500 4x4 6 speed with no mods other that a filter. I got the code once, cleared it, and got it again about 500 miles later. The code only appeared after turning the truck off and restarting it. What confuses me is that I do not have any symptoms of the IP going bad. No loss of power, no dead pedal, no smoke, nothing. I did a fuel pressure test and all checked good at WOT and at idle. So my question is that could that code be a fluke or is the pump starting to fail electrically and not mechanically?? This one has me baffled a bit, I would apreciate any and all input. Thanks for your time......

The Electronics inside your VP are going out. Sry but sounds like its time for a new VP44.

From: North Carolina or Kentucky. Take your pick
It may continue in mode you describe for 10,000 or 5 miles. Make sure you have good lift pump pressure to VP44 and pray. I would keep driving until considerable more agrevation is inflicted. Check wiring and ground. JMHO

Like Dozer said. If you can afford taking a chance of the truck dying on the road, keep driving, it may last a year or a day. But if you go on long trips, buy a new VP-44: the cost of towing, interrupted trip and having some obscure shop install an obscure pump will be worse than the $950 advance replacement.

I agree. I drove mile 6,000 miles before it was so bad it had to be changed.

Well said. Been there, done that. No fun at all. Although, to be fair to myself, mine had no problems/codes beforehand, it just quit.
