I plug my truck in at home, but when it is parked at work during the day I don't have access to a plug. It was 6 degrees this evening and it was really rough starting. It sounded like it was runing on 2 cylinders for about a minute and spewed black smoke. It seems like it shouldn't be that hard to start. Do I have a problem or is this just normal?

Any performance mods?? Black smoke generally indicates excess raw fuel....

I have on occasion started my CTD before the wait to start went off on those occasions I blew some black smoke

 

I Cycle it twice when it is cold.
