The P PCU was what I got when I turned the ignition on and off 3 times on the odometer slot. My new code at the parts store was P0216.

P PCU means the PCM is free of codes.

P 0216 in the ECM is bad news, usually means a new VP44 in your future.

I took it to the dealer, they said it could be a throttle positioning sensor, transfer pump, or injecter pump. Didn't say anything about the trans. I only got 56 K on the truck. Trans fluid serviced, never burned the fluid. I don't know if that makes a difference or not. I have a feeling I'm about to get screwed. the P0216 code at the parts shop said PCN has determined that there is a discrepancy between the actual and the desired injector timing

Yeah sorry....

I think it generally means the timing distributor rotor is hanging up.

Well, got the news today. It was the injector pump, service advisor recommended the I replace the transfer pump also. $3598.68 later I have my truck back and running like a champ. So much for all my upgrades I had planned. For everyone who isn't familiar with the fuel systems on diesels, have your pressures checked periodically. It will save you some cash.

Monitoring the motor with a good set of gauges is a wise investment!
Fuel pressure gauge in your case would have pinpointed your problems.

Sorry about the dealer turning you over their knee. You need to learn to do the routine maintenance your self. And YES all pumps on ctd are routine.

What? Good God, you must be in Canada...wish you would have visited us before you had trouble - you could have gotten a new pump and bombproofed your fuel system for MUCH MUCH less than you spent.

Checking pressures periodically is not good enough. With a second gen 24V, you NEED a fuel pressure guage in the cab and need to be very vigilant in watching it.
